Mawson Lakes, AU

Lockheed Martin Australia is hiring a Verification & Validation Engineer to join the AIR6500 program on site in Mawson Lakes, Australia. The Australian arm sits within a global defence leader that employs a global team of over 122,000 professionals, with a culture that values flexibility to help people perform at their best both inside and outside of work. This role is well suited for someone who thrives in complex defence engineering environments and enjoys turning intricate requirements into solid verification outcomes.

Eligibility is a must: applicants must be Australian citizens and be eligible to obtain and maintain an active Australian Government Defence security clearance. The position may involve handling export-controlled material, so additional compliance information may be requested as part of the process.

As a Verification & Validation Engineer, you’ll help safeguard system performance, quality and mission readiness by driving verification activities across the full engineering lifecycle, contributing to one of Australia’s most advanced defence capabilities.

Mornings in the verification lab

On a typical day you’ll own and contribute to key V&V artefacts such as V&V Plans, VCRM and Acceptance Test Plans, shaping how verification is approached and demonstrated. You’ll plan and execute system-level verification across complex, integrated environments, keeping end-to-end traceability from requirements through to verification evidence. You’ll support system integration and incremental verification for AIR6500 JABMS capability, collaborating with Systems Engineering, Test & Evaluation, Quality and programme stakeholders. You’ll also contribute to the ongoing evolution of V&V frameworks, processes and tools, while building a concrete understanding of system architecture, operational capability and mission requirements. The work is performed in a modern, digitally enabled engineering environment and requires close teamwork with multidisciplinary groups.

Guidance for pursuing a defence verification path

Tip 1: Open your resume with your V&V and systems engineering experience, and highlight any MBSE tool use and security clearance up front so the reviewer sees you’re ready for AIR6500 on day one.

Tip 2: Show concrete examples of how you’ve planned and executed system-level verification and kept traceability from requirements to verification evidence, including artefacts like V&V Plans, VCRM and Acceptance Test Plans.

Tip 3: Be prepared to discuss your experience in complex, system-of-systems environments and how you’ve worked with cross-functional teams in Agile/Scrum settings to improve verification frameworks and tools.

Tip 4: Have a thoughtful question ready about how verification artifacts integrate with the AIR6500 system architecture and how the team handles export-controlled material in day-to-day verification work.
