A day in the warehouse on a busy shift
On the floor you’ll handle heavy items and assist with unloading and loading containers that may involve two-person lifts, especially when moving larger pieces of furniture. Safety and adherence to health standards come first, while you’ll work to meet customer requirements, follow standard operating procedures, and hit the business KPIs. Trailers will be tipped to access cartons, and you’ll palletise where needed, often at the loading bay dock as part of the inbound and outbound flow.
Throughout your shift you’ll book deliveries using handheld scanners, ensure products are stored in their allocated locations, and carry out picking tasks to satisfy customer orders within agreed timescales. You’ll also scan, pack, and label orders for dispatch at the packing station, with some tasks performed at a standing workstation. There’s a chance you’ll complete rework tasks as requested by customers, and you’ll be expected to log activities and keep timesheets up to date so the next steps in the process can run smoothly. Training is provided if you need to operate any machinery beyond your current competence, and you’ll be encouraged to handle consumables and equipment with care and return them to their proper places.
