Xiaomi EV - Project Leader (Design Modelling)
XiaomiXiaomi is growing its electric-vehicle program in Europe and is recruiting a senior design modelling lead to join the team in Munich, onsite. The role is a full-time position that sits at the crossroads of creative intent and practical feasibility, ideal for someone who has steered automotive design modelling projects and wants to shape production-ready concepts.
The Project Leader (Design Modelling) will partner with designers, engineers, and management to translate bold ideas into accurate digital and physical representations. If you enjoy guiding a modelling team, managing cross-functional collaboration with suppliers, and presenting progress at design reviews, this opportunity could be a strong fit.
The company is looking for a seasoned professional with a track record in automotive design modelling and a knack for mentoring others. It’s a hands-on leadership role that rewards clear communication, organised delivery, and hands-on expertise in both digital and physical modelling workflows.
Shaping the future of design modelling in Munich
In this role, you’ll steer design modelling programs from early concept through to production-ready models, ensuring the design intent is faithfully represented while keeping technical feasibility in view. You’ll define goals, timelines, and resources in collaboration with studio leadership and you’ll coordinate closely with suppliers to maintain smooth workflows across external and internal partners.
You’ll oversee the creation of digital surface models, including Class A / CAS, and you’ll manage the production of physical clay or milling models. Your job is to ensure every model clearly communicates the intended aesthetics and proportions and to drive design reviews with senior management at key milestones. You’ll also help implement best practices for both digital modelling and the physical build process, ensuring quality and feasibility stay aligned with project deadlines.
As the main point of contact between design leadership, modelers, and engineering teams, you’ll run workshops and review sessions with cross-functional groups and provide mentorship and performance feedback to the modelling team as a whole.
What you’ll bring to the team
- A degree in Transportation Design, Industrial Design, Engineering, or a related field, supporting your technical foundation.
- More than ten years of automotive design modelling experience, with a track record in leadership or coordination roles.
- Strong capability with digital modelling tools such as Alias, ICEM Surf, Blender, VRED and Catia, and/or hands-on experience with physical clay modelling processes.
- Solid understanding of automotive design development from concept through to production, with the ability to translate ideas into feasible models.
- Proven leadership, organisational, and communication skills, plus the ability to manage several projects at once while meeting tight deadlines without compromising design quality.
- English fluency is required, and German language skills are also expected.
Pay and practical details
The role is full-time and onsite in Munich, Germany. Travel to partner studios or engineering facilities may be required on occasion, reflecting the cross‑functional nature of the work.
Tips for applicants
Lead your resume with your decade-plus track record in automotive design modelling and, crucially, highlight any leadership or coordination responsibilities you’ve held on big projects.
Demonstrate your command of the tools listed, Alias, ICEM Surf, Blender, VRED, Catia, by pointing to concrete examples of digital surface models you’ve created and any physical clay or milling models you’ve directed or produced. If you can show both digital and physical outputs, you’ll stand out.
Be ready to discuss how you drive design reviews with senior management and how you mentor modelers to improve aesthetics, proportions, and surfacing. Share a specific process you use to balance design intent with feasibility under deadlines.
Ask a focused question about how the team collaborates with design leadership, modelers, engineering, and suppliers, and how success is measured when delivering production-ready models on time.
